Baby Carriers - Yes or No

This past weekend Jake and I picked up an ErgoBaby carrier and after getting it home, we started to question our purchase.
We think it's a really nice carrier, but will we actually use it is more of the question for us.
So, for any of you out there that have an opinion on these types of baby carriers, do you love it, hate it, or actually use it?
Any thoughts on these are appreciated.  We like to think we'd actually use it, but we're just not 100% sold for the money we paid for it.
Thanks in advance for your help and thoughts!!

I'm part of the minority that does not like the Ergo. Or the Bjorn. Or any other carrier that looks like them. I just think they're ugly (even the Petunia Pickle Bottom line) and I don't want to be seen wearing them.

I have a sling from Seven Everyday Slings that I LOVE. I reviewed it on my blog not long ago, if you want to check it out. I also have a ring sling that I really enjoy.

That said, my baby is only 8 weeks old so I've only had a short amount of experience with them (my toddler never liked being in the sling - back then I had a Hotsling and a Maya).

Slings are okay, but when your baby or toddler start weighing more than 20lbs, it get's kind of hard on your shoulder or back. We've got an ergo and love it. I could put my toddler in there and carry him for a long time without hurting my back or shoulders, and now we use it for our 8 month old who weighs 23+lbs.
But everyone is different and it's okay to try many carriers before you find one that works for you.

I had a Bjorn and absolutley adored it. I carried my baby in it everywhere. It made doing housework with a baby easier for us both (instead of the alternative of holding him and doing housework with one arm.) It was great for walks, and I prefered to have him in it while we shopped, instead of having him in his carseat. So I'm all for carriers. I do want to get a sling for my next baby, though, because I've heard such good things about them.

I honestly think that guys tend to be better equipped to use a baby carrier. I don't know why. I had a Bjorn and I only used it a couple times. I always that my daughter my daughter was too big for it (she was 11-3 at birth) and I was always worried that my son was too small (6-1 at birth). With both children, I was always paranoid that a strap would break and they would fall out.

That being said, both my kids loved it-- especially my son. It really came in handy for the times that baby will only sleep when he's snuggled up on your chest and you still need to do the dishes and the laundry!
